I took off from Farmington, New Mexico and after heading southeast and crossing the mountains just east from Santa Fe and that was pretty much it for the good scenery. Nothing against eastern New Mexico, the panhandle of Texas, and Oklahoma, but there's really nothing to see except miles and miles and more miles of flat nothingness. I landed in Borger, Texas for fuel, where I was greeted by the nicest guy at any of the places I stopped at anywhere. Before I got out of the plane he was already asking what I needed for the plane, if I needed a car to go get something to eat, or if I needed anything for myself. I stuck around for a bit and talked with him and another guy there, and told them about the trip, where I'd been, and where I was headed. The consolation for the scenery was the service, and the fuel was way cheaper than out west, and in fact, the aviation fuel in Texas was the same price as auto fuel back home in Michigan. From Texas it was on to Oklahoma, and to meet a couple people. One, who I owed money to (long and separate story there) and another who I'd talked to for quite a while, but had never met. I was given a personal tour of Oklahoma City and Norman and treated to a great dinner at Cattleman's as promised by one of the state's highest ranking officials. After dinner down by the stockyards, it was a short drive over to the Oklahoma City Memorial. This was the only place I visited on this trip that wasn't aviation related or viewed from the air. After the Federal building was destroyed the city closed the street and replaced it with a large reflecting pool capped on each end with two large arches. One arch has 9:01 carved in it commemorating when the bomb exploded in front of the building, and one has 9:03 for when the building collapsed. After viewing the memorial, I was being taken back to my hotel when a car pulled up next to us on the interstate. They kept gesturing for us to pull over, and pointing at our tire like it was going flat. Well, both of us knew that wasn't the case. For about 5 or 6 miles they kept this up. Seems they wanted to get us to stop so they could rob us. We were smart enough to not stop and just before they took off they tried to run us off the road. Welcome to Oklahoma!
